Belafonte started his career after enlisting to the US Navy during World War II, after which he took acting classes entering the entertainment business were he became a succesful singer and actor, becoming the first single artist to sell more than a million copies of his album with his album "Calypso" in 1956, spending 31 weeks as Billboard's top album.
