Police have had a breakthrough into their investigation into a fatal crash outside a busy airport, with officers saying the driver may not have realised he had fatally struck a motorcyclist.
A white prime mover has now been located and a truck driver is assisting police with their inquiries into the accident near Brisbane Airport about 5.25am on Friday.
Paramedics arrived soon after and treated the motorbike rider – a 48-year-old Kippa Ring man – for critical injuries, but he died at the scene.
A Queensland Police spokesperson said the truck did not remain at the crash site.
“We’re not sure the driver realised he struck the motorcyclist, (so) we are trying to find the driver,” the spokesperson said earlier on Friday.
Police released CCTV footage on Friday a white prime mover truck sought by investigators.
Police are still calling for anyone who may have witnessed the early morning incident to contact them.
Forensic crash specialists had also been dispatched to the crash on Friday.
