The Academy of Country Music Awards nominations were announced yesterday, but host Reba McEntire is not too happy with the outcome in one major category. Entertainer of the Year only featured men. The country legend is calling out the ACM for their lack of equality, especially since there are so many talented ladies that are deserving of the honor.
“It doesn’t make me very happy because we’ve got some very talented women out there who are working their butts off. I’m missing my girlfriends on this list,” the ACM host shared with the Tennessean.
The 63-year-old was on hand to announce the nominations in all of the categories. Although McEntire hid her disappointment with the lack of women in the main category during the nominations, she is no longer staying quiet.
She has had enough of women being overlooked. This is the second year in a row that the ACM shut the ladies out of Entertainer of the Year. Plus, last November at the Country Music Awards there were also no women nominated in the same top category.

Country music is only considering a few males for the pivotal entertainer category because the nominees are precisely the same for the Academy of Country Music Awards, as they were for the Country Music Awards last fall. Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, Luke Bryan, Chris Stapleton, and Jason Aldean have all been nominated once again for the top honor. Urban took home the award at the CMA’s
Ironically the shut out of females in the top category comes less than two weeks after country singer Kacey Musgraves took home four Grammy Awards. One of which was Album of the Year. Musgraves has been heating up the country music scene this year, and she is just one of several female artists that could have been in the running for Entertainer of the Year.

Plenty of categories are honoring the women of country music, but they are specifically designated for females. However, it is not the same, and Reba McEntire is expressing how displeased she is with the industry. The same few men have been nominated for Entertainer of the Year for the past few years and it is time that changed.

McEntire will host the ACM Awards for the 16th year in a row on April 7th on CBS. What are your thoughts on the singer speaking out for the lack of women nominated for the top honor?
