Earlier this week, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released their list of nominations for the 2020 Oscars. And, in the Best Actress category, Renee Zellweger is already the heavy favorite to take home the prize for her performance as Judy Garland in the biopic Judy.
But, despite all of the love she has already received for that role during awards season, Zellweger says she still likes the idea of returning to the role that made her a household name – Bridget Jones.

While speaking with Vanity Fair for their annual Hollywood issue, Zellweger said that “it would be fun” to play Bridget Jones a fourth time.
“I know people are coy. I’m not. I promise I’m not. I just don’t know,” Zellweger said about the possibility of doing Bridget Jones 4. “I mean, that’s a Helen [Fielding, the author of the Bridget Jones books] question, but I hope she would want to. I know she wrote a book, so maybe.”
It’s been nearly two decades since Zellweger first played the character back in 2001. Not only was Bridget Jones’s Diary a box office hit, but the role earned the 50-year-old actress her very first Oscar nomination.
She returned to the character in 2004 for the sequel Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, and again for a third time in 2016 with Bridget Jones’s Baby. The franchise has earned hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide, and Zellweger says playing the character has been “so much fun.”

The Oscar winner joked that if another Bridget Jones movie was in the works, she would be the last to know. Zellweger said that they are already building sets by the time they give her a call and ask her what she thinks about playing the character again.
Zellweger admits she would love the experience of revisiting Bridget Jones because she loves her and “she’s the best.” Last May, the actress appeared on The Talk just before Judy hit theaters. And, when co-host Sheryl Underwood about the possibility of doing another Bridget Jones movie and where she sees the character now, Zellweger replied, “Bridget Jones, the Menopause.”
Zellweger did get serious about it, and said that if they call her for another Bridget Jones, she’ll “go running.”
